Background – The Patrician Society
The Patrician Society is an Old Boys Association that seeks to unite all past and present
St Patrick’s Secondary and Pre-University students; De Lalle Salle Brothers; teachers and
staff; Members of the school’s Board of Management and its Advisory Board as well as
well–wishers and benefactors into one big PATRICIAN FAMILY.
The Patrician Society will be celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year
Background – The Patrician Society
Named after the Patron Saint of Ireland, the school has very strong Irish roots thanks
to the many inspiring Irish De Lalle Salle Brothers who spearheaded the establishment,
growth and development of the school. The School was established in 1933 and has just
celebrated its 70th Anniversary. Over the years, the school has produced many outstanding
career academics and students who excel in all professions in Singapore including the
creative arts and the sporting arena. The school was in fact in the early 1980s,
one of the top schools in Singapore academically and sports wise.
St Patrick’s- The School
The school has always held true to its original vision and mission of educating the
poor. The school continues to be an icon in the Eastern part of the Singapore educational
landscape and community. From the earliest times, the school has seen many outstanding
national sportsmen; artists; politicians; lawyers; career bureaucrats; artistes and many
leaders in all aspects of life. The Patrician always lives up to the school's motto
of "He Can Who Will". He has been brought up in a holistic learning environment and
is a person who can adapt to all of life's challenges.
A Salute to Bro Joseph McNally
Arguably the most well-known principal to have headed the school. A "man of the cloth",
Bro McNally as he is fondly remembered, by all his peers and students, dedicated his entire
life to living up to the school's vision and motto. He taught all students that each and
every one of us is God's unique beloved and has special talents, academic and otherwise.
He was ahead of his time and taught that all religions are to be respected and he empowered
his staff and students alike. Using the creative talents that he was born with, he has
inspired many generations of Patricians to be imbued with the Love for the Arts. After
passing on the baton as Principal of the school, Bro McNally went on to establish what is
today the SIA-La Salle College of the Arts. It was apt that Bro McNally went on to receive
the highest French Cultural Award for his achievements. Bro McNally was called back to God
this year but his legacy lives on and continues to inspire all who knows him.
Bro McNally : An Inspiration to Patrician Creativity
It is oft mentioned within the Patrician Family, that Bro McNally's creative talents
flourished during the time he was with St Patrick's. In a small corner of the old school,
the beginnings of many of his beautiful sculptured works of art was born. He encouraged
a small band of students and teachers to work with him as well as to pursue their own
unique talents in arts. Today, Bro McNally's Sculptures adorn the premises of many
buildings and offices all over the Singapore and beyond. More importantly, through
his inspirational life, many creative talents were born into the Patrician family.
Patrician Society: Celebrating 25 Glorious Years
The Patrician Society turns 25 this year and would like to mark this auspicious year
with an event which all Patrician can identify and be a part of. This event will also
serves as a clarion call to all members of the Patrician Family past , present and
future to rally behind their alma mater and revisit what it means to be a Patrician
